The Pretty Reckless

I went to see The Pretty Reckless two weeks ago with my friend [and future roommate!] Jenn.  They were friggin' radical, as was their two warm up bands, The Parlor Mob and The Hollywood Kills. Taylor Momsen is seriously my idol. She's just so raw and insane and just does whatever she feels. I love it.

Have to admit I'm a sucker for a harmonica player..

concerts I can't go to

Not really though. I friggin' hate it when I can't go to a rad concert I find out about. I'd rather just not know there're going on. But with all this twit shit, I know everything that's going on for Motion City Soundtrack, as I follow each of the five members individually and their band's twitter. So I found out about a show they had last week in New Orleans with Maniac. [But it's okay because I'm going to see Maniac at Ricksaw Stop in April and I always got a MCS show in my sights.]

poetry

Slowly sways
the long pendulum of life
matching my legs as they dangle
patiently waiting
in this cold, bright space.
No hand to hold.
No throat to kiss.
Like I had when this all began.
I felt your weight on top of me.
I felt your breath on my neck.
But I feel nothing
in this lonely, dark place.
I imagine him… her?
a little mixture of us;
a peek into our futures;
what could have been.
I wish you were with me,
but when you heard my words,
heard my decision,
you ran for the door.
She looks at me with pity,
like she knows I’m alone.
She musters up enthusiasm,
“It’s a boy!”
I wonder if he’ll look like you.

Taylor Momsen

photo credit: The Pretty Reckless' Facebook page.
So I went to see the Pretty Reckless at the Bottom of the Hill last week. Sadly, it's not really the best venue for photos, so I didn't get that many good ones [but I will post what I have latah]. What isn't sad about the Bottom of the Hill is that you're practically next to the artist no matter where you are in the club, so it's still one of my favorite venues in San Francisco
At this show, I pretty much fell in love with both the warm up bands [The Parlor Mob and The Hollywood Kills], as well as Taylor's hair. That might sound weird, but her hair is insane. It's long, straight, bleach blonde and gorgeous. I want it so badly. So now I'm considering getting extensions

DFS (Designated Friend Stopper)

Last weekend, my best friend Michaela made up the term, DFS (Designated Friend Stopper), to describe the person that you put in charge of your words and actions at the start of a night of frivolity [especially if you think there is a specific thing that you shouldn't, but probably would, say or do to a certain person].

I love making up words with Michaela.

more pictures from Sac State

Here're some of the pictures that Wally took this weekend. Not very many of my boats actually rowing, but oh well. Also no pictures from my race with the bow four of the Demander, sadly, although they had the most incredible sprint!

Varsity Lightweight Four. Second Place.

Ribbons!

We were all so excited for this race.
Too bad we attacked another boat :[

Got a photo of this race.
[and a video, though I'm not sure that I wanna post that one].

Flying Angelica!

She deserved it, with first place finishes in every race she coxed!

I simply adore this photo.

New shoes!

If you didn't know already, Blowfish booties are my downfall [well that and Jessica Simpson shoes and dresses; Karla, you know what I mean]. I have like five pairs already and just got two new ones in the mail [but give me some credit, I do wear them pretty much everyday, so I wear each pair weekly on average].
But hell, I was having a pretty shitty day [morning water practice was cancelled on account of weather and I had lab, although it was the last lab of the quarter yay! and I'm still sick, so I just wanted to curl up in my bed and watch Harry Potter movies, but I have to finish a group project instead] but my day was miraculously saved by the package slip for these two booties in my mailbox!

Sac State Invitational

As you very well may know [considering that most people who read my posts were there], the Sacramento State Invitational was yesterday! I coxed two varsity fours and rowed three seat in the coxswain race! All three of my races were incredible and we only ran into another boat on one of the races [in the coxswain race, we kind of attacked the boat next to us. whoops]! I only took film photos, but I stole some pictures from my friend Alyssa to show ya! [she only got pictures of the coxswain race, so hopefully my friend Wally will post his photos of the other races soon!]

launching at 11:58am... for a 12pm race.

Drew's war face
Us attacking the boat next to us. We were the two lead boats before this.
It totally looks like Drew and the other coxswain are just chilling.

Victory! In the sense that we didn't flip and only caught a crab
in warm-up!

Davis Invitational (a little late)

Here're some pictures from last weekend's regatta in Davis. It was an absolutely gorgeous day [especially compared to last year's cold, windy, rainy horror of a day] and both my boats, the JV eight and four, did very well! It was a fun course to row, particularly with the bridge around the 500 to go that made it super fun to watch the entire race [even if I couldn't watch the finishes because I refused to run across the street. hey! they said it was against the rules in the coxswain meeting!].

LOCR

I have to thank Lake Oswego Community Rowing for giving me a place to row and cox this past summer. I came back to SCU as a better docker and a much better rower.

This boat is sinking in the video at the bottom of this post!
My mom and I in a double. Double trouble!

Stroking an unbalanced boat gets you bloody.
The beautiful LOCR boathouse. It's so nice not having to bring the
boat up and down a huge hill.

The Sinking of the Nancy Michaelson
hilarious.

baseball season

Thank god it's baseball season again. Can't wait to start going to midday weekend games in the sun and weeknight games with my ladies. And our baseball team is doing pretty well so far this year! Yay!

Davis Invitational

First race of the spring! Gah! It's been so long coming, but it feels like just yesterday we were going to Lexington for the first time in back in September! The next few weeks are going to be quite a whirlwind with races, finals, spring break, San Diego, more races, Easter, and WIRAs. Then it'll be that insane month of May were all hell breaks loose and the rest of the year is a shit show [I feel bad saying that I can't wait because racing season is just starting.. just fuck it. I can't wait!]. Then the school year will end and it'll be all about summer classes and moving into Lemonade Stand, then it'll be time to leap over to France and get all worldly and sheeit [I'm gonna be so fucking fluent that I'll probably do a couple posts in French!]. All in all, this is the first day of the rest of my life. ahahah just kidding. everyday is the first day of the rest of my life :]
