pretty ladies

Hi! I'm in the library right now studying for my Chemistry exam and Psychology exam [Wednesday and Thursday, respectively, and I had a Stats exam today, which I pretty much blew outta da water.], so I gots to keep this short and sweet. I just wanted to stop by and let y'all know that Black Velvet was amazing. It was great to see some old friends again and to go crazy one last time before racing season starts and destroys any traces of a social life I had before. But the best part definitely was getting to dress up in the fancy blue dance that ma sistah picked for her bridesmaid to wear and be all purdy. Alyssa, Angelica, Karla and I all got our make-up professionally did by some loverly ladies at the mall.

Hurr's the only picture I took that night [sorry I didn't document better!]:

Black Velvet!

So my chemistry class was cancelled today and my math class was just reviewing for an exam, so I got out of class at 11:35am this sunny, sunny Friday! It's a great start to what is set to be an amazing weekend. It's Parents' Weekend, so the parental figures are starting to pop up around campus, which makes me want my parents here now, and not at 9:30pm tonight [but at least they're coming at all! Last year I told them not to come and I was sad all weekend seeing everyone with their parents]. But they aren't really come down for Parents' Weekend, but for Black Velvet! It was far too much fun last year and I'm hoping this year will be even better. I got myself a purdy dress [the cobalt blue one I wore for Shan's wedding] and already have plans to get my eyebrows waxed and my make-up professionally done! The only downside to this amazing weekend is that I have not one, not two, but three midterms next week, so I have to get cracking on studying for them NOW, so I'll have lotso time with my parentals when they're here. But at least it's so nice [it's 72, already 5 degrees warmer than forecasted for today, so maybe we'll blast through the 71 degree heat of the day!], so I'll get to be warm and outside while I study!

Fearless Platinum Edition

So I just spend ten more dollars on Taylor Swift. I bought the Platinum Edition of the Fearless album and I am in love with its bonus tracks. I can't stop listening to the piano version of "Forever & Always." I'm also playing "Jump than Fall" on repeat. Here's a video [just with the music and lyrics, she didn't make an official music video for the song] so you can fall in love too:

Palentine's Day

Okay, so first off, I have to give credit where credit is due and that means that I must tell you that I did not make up the phrase "Palentine's Day," but heard it from my roommate, Maggie. It pretty much means the day that you spend with your best lady friend instead of with a smelly boy. I spent this Palentine's Day with my good friend Karla at Half Moon Bay. It was magical. She brought me to the most beautiful beach [no sand! all pebbles!] that she used to go with her dad when she was little.

A little friend.

Karla!

So perfect, it being Love Day and all.

So after all that natural beauty with my Valentine, I treaded over and baked some heart-shaped cookies for my boys at green :]

"The Boy Who Blocked His Own Shot" by Brand New

Everything about this song is incredible. The lyrics, the music, Jesse Lacey's voice. I also love the crowd singing along to every word in this video; brings me back to when I last saw Brand New live. This song is just so haunting and heartbreaking. I would single out a couple of my favorite lines, but I have so many that I might as well put the entire lyrics up.

Brand New live at Sonar in Baltimore, Maryland on April 26th, 2011.

coffeeeeee

My love for coffee (black.. I don't like all the fluff) has absolutely nothing to do with the fact that it is the only thing getting me through my Comm midterm right now.. not. That is my main reason for loving it. It can help me stay awake [which is not easy for me] while doing even the most tedious of requirements. And I like the way it gives me the pins-and-needles sensation in my finger tips without also giving me a hangover the next morning! Only downside? I have to pee like a banshee every five minutes even if I have just one cup. Actually that's something I should be taking care of right about now....

Portland, Ore.

Sorry I haven't posted in a decade. I've been super busy with midterms and such, as well as preparing to miss two days of class to go home! That's right, in roughly 26 hours, my sister Jessyka and I will be touching down at good ole PDX. This is one [of many!] reasons yesterday was pretty much the best day of my little life [so far!]. Another reason was getting a 100% on my stats midterm, but I'll leave all the other [and better] stuff for a later post, once I know that I can actually talk about all the great news I got yesterday!
So, as for now, I'm loving me some Portland swag and can't wait to see all my favorite people!
I'm so lucky that I grew up in such a beautiful place.

fill in the blank Friday

1. If money wasn't an issue, the first thing I'd cross of my life list is publishing a novel.
2. Waking up early is something I really like that other people think is weird.
3. If my life were a movie right now, the title would be "What Not to Do in Love and Life." Sometimes I feel like all my decisions cumulate into a "How To" guide. As in, "How to: make things awkward," "How to: set yourself up for heartbreak," "How to: lose friends and alienate people." The choice is yours.
4. Three things I am looking forward to this month are: Oregon next weekend, the first set of midterms being over, and Black Velvet.

5. My favorite song to sing in the shower is something that changes daily. Singing in the shower is one of my favorite things to do. I really love singing songs by strong female vocalists, like Adele or Christina Aguilera. Or, of course, Pocket Full of Sunshine.
6. If I found out that the production of any No. 7 skin care product was ending this month, I'd go out and buy as much as I could tomorrow.
7. One thing I'll never grow tired of is driving alone in my car, wind rushing in through the windows, music blasting, singing on the top of my lungs.

*I'm not sure who took either of these photos.

Katzenjammer

They're Norwegian. They're an all-girl band. They're friggin' ridiculous. Sometimes it seems like they're singing in a different language although all their lyrics are in English. They've got great style. Their band name means either an uproar or a hangover, two things I'm sure these ladies are used to both causing and experiencing first hand.

Adele

Yesterday I mentioned that I was listening to "Someone Like You" by Adele and I certainly was not kidding. I've been listening to various tracks from her album, 21, on repeat for the past couple of weeks. I fully realize that I'm about a year late on this and even more behind the times with songs from 19, but I'm not ashamed. haha look at it this way: while all you are either sick of her or desperately waiting for her next album, I'm just starting to realize her musical talents. I mean, her lyrics are just so biting and her voice so soulful. I just want her voice to be streaming through my head all day, every day. And guess what? She pretty much is!
