getting mail

As most college students would agree, opening up your little mailbox to find a letter or package stuffed inside is one of the best feelings in the world [especially if it's birthday presents and new albums you just ordered!].
This afternoon, I happened upon one magazine [Seventeen!], one birthday card [from my friend Michaela] and two little slips that meant I had two little packages [well one ended up not being all that little]. But anywho, I got a birthday package from my sistah Jessyka [with chocolate and an awesome sweater to boot] and the self-titled album by my new favorite band Dead Man's Bones. This new found affection for this duo may have something to do with the fact that one half of the act is Ryan Gosling, but since I've been listening to the album all day now, I'm loving his voice [almost] as much as I love his face. ahhaha but really, his voice is gorgeous... and so is his face. :]

This song is so beautifully haunting and this video is incredible.

holiday happy list

I bought so much at Gap.
As I use FaceTime for the first time with my sister Jessyka in Alaska [avoiding school work as well as job applications], I'm mourning the end of my Thanksgiving break from classes [and practice!]. With a week of morning practices, long classes and even longer study hours hot on my heels, I thought I'd remind myself of the great things of the holidays [if only to get me through these last two weeks before winter break].

10 things I am awfully thankful for this holiday season:
+ watching way too much television [the History Channel and RuPaul's Drag Race!]
+ family dinners and holiday traditions
+ not having an emotional breakdown when Black Friday shopping in Union Square
+ turning a year older [no longer a teenager!!]
+ buying a harmonica [and maybe even learning to play it!]
+ leaving all my school work to the last day of break [and still avoiding it now]
+ new Candy Cane body wash :]
+ my ducks winning the Civil War and clinching the Pac-12 title
+ peppermint mochas
+ getting some early Christmas shopping done [earliest I've ever done it!]

Adorable little mannequins at J.Crew!

my cozy bed and not waking up til 9:30am

I'm currently obsessed with and awfully thankful for my warm, cozy, wonderful bed. It just engulfs you at the beginning of the night and doesn't want to let you go when the alarm goes off [and some times I don't let go right back!]. But I'm especially thankful for this whole week of waking up after the sun [except tomorrow morning, but that's for a good reason! just wait :] The only, and I mean it, the only bad thing about getting to sleep in all this week is that it's going to just be all that much more difficult to wake up early all next week for water practices. good thing I kinda like those boys in the boat with me!.. kinda. ;]

RuPaul's Drag Race

So I have to admit... on this being my first complete day as a 20 year old, I've been watching a RuPaul's Drag Race marathon since noon. It may be my new favorite show [well new favorite reality tv show being as PanAm is mostdef still my favorite real show]. It's just so dragfabulous. And the person that has been missing from my life the end of cycle 12 of America's Next Top Model is back! Raja Gemini [akSutan Amrull] was one of the main reason's a watched ANTM [I watched it for one season after she left.. and I had to watch cycle 13 because that had all the shorties and I gotta support those who give shorter girls the chance to model if only, if only...], and I considered it one of my favorite shows.. so.. I'm guessing y'all can see how lacking my life has been on the dragfabulous department in the past two years!

Raja Gemini, in all her glory:

And I'm willing to over-look the whole drag queen thing, if he's willing to over-look the whole me being a girl thing.
So let's get married. :]

how I spend my birthday

stole this picture from my mother.
yep. today's my birthday... ahahh I've never been the biggest fan of birthdays and this one is a little iffy being as I'm no longer a teenager... [but Michaela said I can still blame my indiscretions on youth... thank god!]

Well... so far, being in my 20s has meant waking up roughly three hours later than I normally would on a Tuesday [but hey.. I am on break, so you can't really blame me] and sitting on my butt in my Santa Clara sweats [sooo comfy] watching the History channel program on the conspiracy surrounding Robert F. Kennedy's assassination [heyy... my birthday is the anniversary of JFK's assassination, so it seems only fitting].

But hopefully later I'll be heading over to the mall to pick up my jeans [finallyy] and check out some places to see what sizes I should be fighting for if I go to Union Square with Karla for Black Friday and possibly to Guitar Center to get me a harmonica!

Well... hopefully at some point today I'll start to feel like I'm in my 20s and not like I'm just a day older... sighhh..

fashion blogs.

John O'Callaghan

just because he's the most adorable stoner ever

but here're some pictures [and maybe even a video, if I can get it to upload] of the concert last night:

I guess I had already written on their tour bus...

artsy.

look at all those hands in the ayerrr.
a girl threw a bra on the stage with the Maine M's on the cups!

okay soo I couldn't upload any of my videos but the one I accidentally took of the ceiling that's 3 seconds long.. soo I guess you'll have to go to my facebook page for the videos. cause they're actually pretty stellar.. so it's worth it.

But last night was pretty fantastic. It was my... fifth?... possibly sixth time seeing these boys live and all I can say is... can't wait til next time! Or til Pioneer comes out on the 6th... hmmmm I think I remember something else planned for the 6th... I guess we'll just have to wait and see!

Head of the Lagoon

So this has to be a quick update on account of the fact that Karla, Alyssa and I are supposed to be heading up to San Mateo in about ten minutes [but knowing Karla, we won't leave for another hour..] so we can bake some cupcakes [from scratch, we're that cool], get some coxswain bonding time, and then actually get some sleep in her very quiet [or at least compared to the dorms] house [and queen sized bed] so we can be bright eyed and bushy tailed for the coxswain meeting tomorrow morning at 7:45am!
The Head of the Lagoon is the last head race of the fall season for us and I'm excited/terrified/anxious/going to throw up, pass out, pee my pants, or all three [but that's just my basic reaction to any race really]. Yep. But I'm mostly excited because this course is going to be the devil in me for the next 24 hours.

Just look at it!:

It's gonna be oh so fun to take those curves like a mother-fuckin' drag racer. That's gonna be my nickname by the end of head race season senior year. yep. I'm gonna be a mother-fuckin' drag racer coxswain. :]

Monday night

Lady Danville.

Most adorable set of guys I've seen in concert in a long time.

Scars on 45 [they're so british]

she sounded like a Spice Girl.

he made the most amazing faces when he was singing,

Jack's Mannequin

some artsy shittt.

more artsy shit.

inspired to learn how to play the haramonica

So yeah. Monday night was friggin' fantastic. I was a steering zombie at practice this morning [I could feel my brain trying so desperately to work when we were bringing the boats together to switch the guys between the boats. I could hear the tick tick tick of the gears trying to move. oh and sorry about the crewspeak], but it was oh so worth it. Jack's Mannequin was amazing. I had a smile plastered across my face their entire set. and I found two amazing new bands, Lady Danville and Scars on 45 [I'm definitely subjecting the boys I'm driving to practice to them both to and from Lexington]. Last night, both bands did covers; Lady Danville sang the MGMT track "Kids" and Scars on 45 wound parts of "Dreams" by Fleetwood Mac [my absolute favorite Fleetwood song] into one of their closing songs.
During the show, I kinda sorta fell in love with Lady Danville's drummer, Matt, [I always fall for drummers. they always look sooo happy just to be playing, just to be on stage. and he had the most adorable, silly smile on his face the whole set] and Molly fell hard for Scars on 45's lead singer, Danny, but she's just like me, but she always falls for lead singers [works for me, then we'll never have to fight over a guy!]. And so after the show, and after spending far too much on a couple of EPs that had on more than five songs on each one, we got around to talking to each of our respective crushes and guess what!! Molly and I got ourselves asked out to the bars by Matt [he said I was gorgeous, and I melted :], but alas, our only ride outta the city that night was on the Bronco Bus, so we had to take a raincheck [Molly and I are already devising a plan to cash it in] and we got back to a very empty, very cold campus around midnight. 'Twas a night to remember! Can't wait to see all of them live again or to see another show with Ms. Molly!
Check out my facebook for more photographies from the show!

P.S. five days 'til Head of the Lagoon!
[and 12 days til the Maine at the Bottom of the Hill. and 14 days til I'm 20 years old! whatta granny. jeez.]

Jack's Mannequin

I have been waiting to see Jack's Mannequin in the city with my friend Molly since we discovered our mutual love for him. The show's at the Regency in San Francisco, at which Molly and I had our first real friend-date going to see Never Shout Never and the Maine. We're taking the Bronco Bus into the city this time, so we won't have to take scary public transportation very late at night like we had to last year [my friend Karla and I are going to see the Maine on the 20th at the Bottom of the Hill. gonna be so sick.]

Well I'm sure I'll have copious amounts of photos waiting for you all after the concert [I'm charging up my camera's two batteries as we speak.. ermm.. as I type... so that the Taylor Swift concert debacle never happens again], but I can't promise they'll actually make it up here. Sorry.

Imma be real tired for practice/class Tuesday morning, but fuck it. gonna be so worth it.
