I just saw Taking Back Sunday live for the second time this past weekend and they were so much better than the first time I saw them live. They were so incredible that I can't even explain in words. And what's even more incredible (if that's possible) is that their new album Taking Back Sunday is coming out next Tuesday the 28th. I'm so stoked; I'm buying it the minute Everyday Music in Beaverton opens. This latest release from the band has the goods to be their best yet because the Tell All Your Friends line-up is back and in fighting form. So I'm thinking Taking Back Sunday will have the raw sound and emotion of their 2002 album as well as the maturity that shined through in Louder Now and New Again. The guys are obviously a whole heckuva lot happier in this line up than they were in any of the other line-ups since Shaun Cooper and John Nolan left in the first place (if you don't believe me, pick up the July 2011 issue of Alternative Press Magazine and read the Complete Oral History of Taking Back Sunday or read it online (and in pieces) at altpress.com).
The question is... what will I do until the 28th? Well, possibly what I've been doing for the past three days since the concert, listening to Tell All Your Friends on constant loop in my car at a volume level that can't possibly be good for my future as a.. well... hearing individual.
Here are some shots I took on Friday at the Roseland PDX. They aren't that great because I'm a mediocre photographer at best and I recently misplaced my decent camera and had to bring my mother's not-so-decent camera to this show:
could you by any chance tell me what songs they played? Like mostly new or old? Im going to see them in houston and i am so excited!!! I just would like to know what they played. thanks! and great pictures!
ReplyDeleteThanks! My camera's terrible, but sometimes the way it blurs the lights looks kinda cool! They played a pretty long set, so I don't think I'll remember everything. Since their newest album comes out tomorrow (I can't wait!), if I were you, I'd get that stat and learn the songs cause they played quite a few (4 or 5) new songs, but I think I'll break it down like this:
ReplyDeleteTell All Your Friends: Bike Scene (I absolutely love this song!), Cute Without the E (Cut From the Team), Timberwolves at New Jersey, and You're So Last Summer.
Where You Want to Be: A Decade Under the Influence and One-Eighty by Summer.
Louder Now: What's It Feel Like To Be A Ghost, Liar (It Takes One to Know One), MakeDamnSure, Spin, and Error: Operator.
New Again: Everything Must Go.
Taking Back Sunday (newest album): El Paso, Faith (When I Let You Down), The Best Places to Be A Mom, and This Is All Now.
They also played Existentialism On Prom Night by Straylight Run.
I think their set list is a huge reflection of the new (or I guess old) line-up; they played a lot of songs that Shaun and John were a part of, especially with the Straylight Run cover.
Oh and I did this in the order that they are on the albums, not the actual setlist order, because honestly, I only really remember for sure that El Paso was their opener and what the final song was (but I'm not gonna leak that, because I don't want to ruin it for you!) and it's more fun if you don't know what song is coming up next!
I hope you have as good of time as I did, or even better! It's an amazing tour (Thursday was really good too)! Have fun!
Yeah I thought the lights in the pictures looked pretty cool! OMG YAY they played Bike Scene, MakeDamnSure, and Cute without the E! I love those. Well i love em all of course lol. And thank you so much for posting this list!! I will definitely download their new album on itunes, since they played quite a few. I've been listening to it on their facebook! And now im so anxious to know the last song, but i do want that to be a suprise cause it is definitely more fun. Once again i REALLY appreciate this :) I hope their houston show is as good as the one you went too!! ahh im so stoked! :D :D
ReplyDeleteNo problem! Let me know how it is and if you get any good shots yourself!
